- For Sale By What?
- For Sale By Mormon. The word Mormon comes from the name of a prophet who lived on the American Continent many years ago. This prophet undertook a marvelous work of compiling and abridging the writings of many prophets who preceded him. The book he compiled was called the Book of Mormon which was later discovered and translated by Joseph Smith, Jr. Based on this discovery and some miraculous manifestations from God and other messengers, Joseph Smith, Jr. founded a church named The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Members of this church were given the nickname “Mormons” because of the Book of Mormon that is used in their teachings. Members of this church are also referred to as LDS or Latter-Day Saints. You can learn more about Mormons by visiting Mormon.Org.
- Do I have to be a Mormon?
- This site is intended to be for Mormons specifically to interact with each other. You will see some products on this site that are Mormon specific that one might not understand without a Mormon background. However, since the creation of this site, many members of other faiths and friends of the Mormon community have requested if they can participate on this site. We welcome you to buy and sell products and services using this site presuming that you will adhere to the terms and conditions of the site and in effect do business the way Mormons are taught to do business. Essentially this means posting family friendly material and being 100% honest in your interactions. You should also know that Mormons generally don't buy certain products such as coffee, tobacco, alcohol, rated R movies or items that would be degrading toward women. - What is a business profile?
- A business profile is a feature that allows you to showcase and establish your online web presence instead of just uploading a single listing. These are the key features of a profile that you don't receive from a regular listing:
- Use paypal to receive payment
- Receive a URL to send customers to. For example: www.forsalebymormon.com/oliviajadehairstudios.
- Link to your website if you already have one. This is key for helping your website be seen by Search Engines
- Link to your social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook and others.
- Upload videos or link YouTube videos not directly related to a product or service. Upload videos that allow you to be viewed as an expert in the field of Finance or Real Estate
- Upload your logo which will be attached to your listings and on your profile page
- What can I post for sale?
You can post anything that you have the legal right to sell. However, forsalebymormon.com is a family friendly community. As such, we reserve the right to remove any posting that we would not want our children to see. This includes anything that is pornographic or close to it.
- What are the best practices for filming a video?
- You have the option of uploading videos to your listings. These are some best practices in filming.
- Don't use music, movies, images etc that you don't have the legal right to use on your videos.
- Use good lighting.
- If you have a tripod it really helps in preventing shakiness.
- Think of it like a commercial you see on TV...it should be informative but interesting enough for the potential buyer to want to find out more about it.
- Don't use any profanity. Buyers tend to trust people more if they don't use profanity.
- Keep it to about 1.5 minutes or less to keep the video size down.

- How can I get a video onto my computer to post?
-
Option 1: I have a Digital camera or camcorder
Most digital cameras and camcorders already come with a USB 2.0 cable that allows you to connect the cable from your camcorder to the USB port of your computer. They also should have provided you with some software to download the video from your camcorder to your computer. Once you have it loaded on your computer you can use some video editing software to trim, insert pictures, add music, add titles or text to your video. For best uploading experience, use your software to compress the video to .mp3, .avi, .wmv, or .flv format. All videos will again be converted and compressed when uploaded to .flv files.
Option 2: I have an older camcorder
Time to upgrade to a digital camcorder, but if you are still holding on
to the past, you will need some special equipment. Assuming your
computer and camcorder supports it, you will need to get a firewire connection
which will enable you to plug a cable from your old camcorder to your
computer.Alternatively this product by Pinnacle systems provides a cool solution for co
nnecting your camcorders using RCA
or S-Video output. It doesn't take a lot of time to learn a new technology.
Simply attach your Dazzle DVD Recorder to your camcorder and your PC's USB 2.0 port,
then capture the video. You can even record from your VCR. Easy to use
software is included for quick transfer of video content from tape to DVD.
A step by step wizard guides you through the process.
Option 3: My cell phone can take video
Most cell phones take video in the .3gp or similar formats. forsalebymormon.com doesn't support this conversion at this time. You will first need to upload the video to your computer and then convert it to a format that forsalebymormon.com does support.
- Do I need to edit my video?
No you don't. Some of the most creative and hilarious videos are off the hip and raw. Some editing may be necessary if you want to combine parts of clips, add text, add music, shrink the size of your video or add effects. If you aren't familiar with video editing, most software has good tutorials and how to's to get you going. Windows XP and above come with Windows Movie Maker for free. Macs also come with built-in software. Otherwise you may want to try an off the shelf product such as:
